About me
I am a native British English speaker who lived in London for most of my life. I have worked in education for over 25 years, teaching a range of subjects, managing departments and working at a senior level. I have always enjoyed the process of learning, both as a teacher and a student. I have recently moved to Portugal and am currently learning Portuguese. This has given me extra appreciation for the effort it takes to speak another language and has made me appreciate my students even more. It has also really shown me the importance of regular practice!
In my spare time I love drawing, walking, reading, watching films and exploring my new country. I also love having conversations with people, meeting old friend s and making new ones.
My Teaching Style
I am an interactive and student centred teacher who is interested in what motivates you. Lessons will be fun, full of conversation but also structured and challenging! I use real life situations, audio, video and texts as well as material created for language students . Lessons will involve a lot of speaking and opportunities to learn and practice grammar structures and new vocabulary.
Why I Love Teaching English
I love meeting people, seeing them grow and develop in confidence as their language skills increase. When you work with people work is never boring. I particularly enjoy finding the right activities and approach for an individual, based on their specific interests and language goals. Once you find out what motivates someone the lessons become instantly interesting and engaging, which in turn speeds up progress.
My Qualifications and Experience
I am a qualified teacher with specific qualifications in teaching Business English and Pronunciation. I have a Masters degree in Creative Writing and a Masters in Psychology. I have over 20 years experience in education as a teacher, a department manager and a Director in an Education and Training Charity. This means I am both qualified and experienced in using academic, creative and professional language.
